Awesome gadget book for the woodworker

This is a great book for the woodworker looking to make wooden gadgets that actually work! The neat thing about this book is that while the plans contain dimensions, they are printed 1:1. So if you don't like the huge locks (some are close to 5" in diameter), you can xerox and reduce the plans and make a smaller one (without having to recalculate; just cut on the lines).

Once you examine a couple of the designs, you can see how you can make your own mechanisms for your own designs.

A re-release of both Detweiller books in one package

This is basically both of Mr Detweiller's previous books combined. I already had his first book and wanted to buy the second book but the used price was ridiculus. The second book is out of print and the economic principle of supply vs. demand is alive and well. Luckily, this "third" book was released and I bought it instead. Don't expect to find plans for the lock on the cover. It isn't in the book.

Great exaplanations

I am finishing up chapter 7. Up to this point I have been very satisfied with this book, the explanations are fairly clear and it actually has all the answers for the review problems and a plethora of examples in the text. BUT I stopped working to write this review because now I am getting sick of incorrect answers or mislabeled charts. In Chapter 7 alone, 3 answers are wrong and variables are jumbled in another. If you can find errors like that then this book is fine, but if you're easily confused I would look for something with less mistakes.

Warning: I don't mind reading "dry" books. As a result I often suggest boring books to people. So read some examples and see if you like it; the book is pretty consistant as far as its applications go.

Few thoughts on Master Math: Probability

I read this book and found it a fairly good introduction to probability theory. It gives you a decent grasp of the basic concepts without too many complex equations. For more advanced readers it's probably (no pun intended) not suitable. There also are some factual errors, for example she states that "In a Markov chain, however, the probabilities for the outcome of a trial depend on the result of the previous trial" when in fact a Markov chain does not have memory.
